The use of electromechanical components is influenced by the REACH and RoHS regulations. It is crucial to be informed about the regulations and to have the necessary certificates and documentation on hand to ensure compliance with both regulations.

Both regulations restrict the use of hazardous heavy metals to protect the environment from chemical hazards, listing lead as a hazardous substance, among others. The permissible concentration is 0.1 weight percent.

The REACH regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment by regulating the use of hazardous chemicals. This results in an obligation to provide information and SCIP listing.

On the other hand, the RoHS directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) restricts the use of certain hazardous substances, including lead, in electrical and electronic devices. Since the last revision, the limits for lead have been strictly regulated, and products that exceed these limits may not be placed on the market. There are still exceptions for alloys (6c or 6a): for copper alloys with a lead content of up to 4%, and for iron alloys up to 0.35% lead. These exceptions actually expired in July 2021, but due to the lack of new regulations, they remain valid – expected until July 21, 2026.
